In a survival or worst case scenario, it is of the utmost importance to have the ability to clean and filter water. You can go days without food but not nearly the same length of time without water. Being you body is mostly composed of water, this only makes sense. You have to make sure that your water is clean enough for draining or you could make yourself very sick, if not worse. If you get diarrhea from parasites or germs in dirty water, you will expel a lot of nutrients and moisture out of you body, likewise if you end up throwing up from sickness. This makes a survival scenario much more worse than it already was.
The importance of clean water is easy quail no matter if you are in the middle of the woods or in the he Urban environment. If the grid goes down in an urban environment water treatment plants have backup generators but the heat are temporary, so you cannot get in the mindset water will always flow from your tap in the city, much less that’s it might be clean enough for consumption. Likewise, in a rural scenario or the woods, you have no idea what parasites or germs could be in any water source you find.

There are many types of straws, filters and devices to clean water on the market. Some are suitable for the home , whole others are more portable for on the go. Some attach right on to water bottles themselves, making it even more simple. When dealing with water, even with some sort of filtration straw or system, i would still try to filter it with some form of bandana or cloth to remove particulates, then boil the water before using my filtration device. But this is time consuming and you need fire which you might not have, or may not be able to discreetly make. This method though, would remove dirt and debris as well as kill germs / bacteria making it that much safer to drink, as any filtration system can still, only do but so much.
Improvise, survive and thrive.
Walk in peace, but be prepared for battle !
