Everyone is familiar with body camera technology. Most are used to seeing law enforcement and related professions with them, and even vehicle dashboard cameras or "dash cams" are common (and mandatory in some countries). For the everyday citizen a body cam can serve multiple purposes, be they work related or personal. They capture moments in time and hence, can be a life saver or a life wrecker depending on how you use them. If you have one for personal use, and say got into a confrontation or an accident the camera could capture all the proof of the incident. If you acted in a favorable fashion or are the innocent party, it could be a lifesaver. Likewise if you were at fault or guilt of something, it would not serve you well, least if the footage came into play. You would hence, need to know your purpose but also always act with good judgement.
These days, we are very likely to bear witness to random acts of violence or confrontations of other people. The first instinct for most people is to take their phone out and start recording when something does happen. A body cam essentially serves the same purpose of catching an event, but has the added benefit if leaving you hands free as well as you situational awareness and 360 degree awareness. You can catch what's going on while paying attention to the environment as a whole. This could be of benefit to others or to you, should you be involved, get involved, or something is actually happening to you directly. A bodycam could catch all taking place on the scene, while leaving your hands and phone free to actually do something more beneficial like call the police or emergency medical services. That's just a little food for thought.
What could or would the benefits of having a personal bodycam be ? you would have to look at you lifestyle and circumstances. Are there any places you go (or have to go) that you deem having bodycam could be helpful to you if something happened ? Do you have to be out at night and having a cam on you could be good if you had to defend yourself ? Do you worry of things like traffic stops or police encounters that you feel having a body cam would be good for you ? Think of your daily life and any points where you feel having a body cam would be applicable. Should you feel the need, find one that suits your purposes and that fits you budget. There is a wide market at many price points. The technology is not new, and there are lots of affordable, high quality options on the market.
Improvise, survive and thrive.
Walk in peace, but be prepared for battle !
