Broadening skill sets beyond fighting
The warrior is a scholar and studies not just warfare, but branches out and studies all the things around it, relating to it, and pertaining to it. This builds a very utilitarian skill set. The warrior is someone whom is relaxed, alert, and ready for whatever may come. They understand that they may not just have to use their skills for their own protection and self preservation, but they may have to use them to come to the aid of theirs in distress. Self defense and survival / self preservation encompass more than just fighting to defend others, it could be knowing first aid to save someone’s life versus sudden illness or injury or being calm in an emergency situation and providing leadership to others.
For example, you could be out with friends and your group gets into an altercation with another group of people. What could you do ? What would you do ? Being the individual with training you would be taking the initiative and trying to verbally diffuse the situation. You would try to create distance among the groups by guiding your party away to counteract violence. What if someone takes a swing and a fight breaks out ? Can you break it up without getting hurt ? What if due to your training you see that sucker punch incoming on your friend and intervene, but knock your friend out in the process because you clipped them while trying to neutralize the other guy.
You may be very adept in your fighting abilities as a warrior but what happens when you may be out enjoying recreation with friends and family, and someone is severely injured or hurt. What would you do ? Do you know how to sterilize a wound ? DO you know how to properly bandage someone up ? Can you stop bleeding ? Do you know CPR or first aid ? What if you are at a gathering and someone suddenly becomes ill and everyone around panics. Can you stay calm under pressure and provide aid ? No one expects you do be a doctor or to try and do anything you do not know how to, but the more you know the better.
What if you and your loved ones were faced with a natural disaster ? Would you be able to protect yourself, have an supplies like food, water, and medical supplies ? Do you have an action plan in place in case the worst happened ? This plan could include a multitude of things.
The scenarios do not stop. The warrior carries a heavy responsibility and may only be able to devote but so much time to learning and perfecting their skills. They have to know how to improvise and adapt with the skills they have and be flexible in their approach as well as think clearly and act quickly. These few scenarios are some to ponder. Ask yourself are you ready or capable of protecting others ? your loved ones ? you may be the only skilled individual with the initiative and skill set to make a difference. Be ready !
