Codes for a Modern Montw warrior:

Montw Warrior :

A showing merited respect (recognition) and a follower of the attributes of Montw. One holding to the ethos that manifests itself within said code of conduct and has various elements such as valor, chivalry, honesty, and compassion. An individual that is the embodiment of and entailing a perceived quality of worthiness and respectability that affects both their social standing and their institution of study and training. A good representative of themselves, school and warrior regiment, class or group.

Honor:

Good name or public esteem (reputation); It must be clarified that this reputation is generally referred to as that amongst peers and the world at large, but more so amongst those of our direct family, friends and culture. Those outside of our direct cultural sphere may have different views of ethics and codes of conduct. We abide by ethics and principles of our culture first and foremost, not letting others dictate or shape them, and hence what we deem as honorable.

Truth:

Based in fact with honesty and integrity; Truth for a warrior is doing what is right when no one is looking. Also, truth is found in facts. Example in using force, we must do what is right, not always what feels comfortable. We value honor amongst our people, brethren and fellow warriors, not enemies or those whom would oppose us. We do not follow the standards or seek the recognition of those outside of our immediate culture, because that make us submissive to foreign standards and expectations.

Justice:

In its broadest sense, is the principle that people receive that which they deserve, with the interpretation of what then constitutes "deserving" being impacted upon by numerous fields, with many differing viewpoints and perspectives, including the concepts of moral correctness based on ethics, rationality, law, equity and fairness. The warrior is always on the side of truth and justice, and demonstrates that in their actions and what they fight for. While the warrior acts in accord with balance being gentle or forceful as needed, when using force, it is righteous and justified and for establishing a proper balance of power within a situation.

Righteousness:

Acting in accord with divine or moral law. Free from guilt or sin and morally right or justifiable. The warrior always acts in righteousness or righteous action. Using their knowledge and strength for good. The warrior always acts in an upstanding manner when they take action, not abusing their power and ability nor taking advantage of others or situations at hand. Always fearlessly willing to stand up for what is right or against injustice.

Balance:

Equality between contrasting, opposing, or interacting elements or when they harmonize. An aesthetically pleasing integration of elements achieving balance. Mental equilibrium or health. The attribute of calmness and a state of remaining clear-headed and unperturbed. The warrior seeks balance within themselves and their lives as a whole. Balance in their mind, body and spirit and the multitude of parts that are to be developed within these facets. On a more simple level, the warrior seeks balance in their words, actions and decision making processes, knowing when to be gentle, be forceful, or be neutral.

Reciprocity:

(What goes around comes around) What this signifies for a warrior is ‘Just cause’. Meaning we ‘RESPOND’ and not ‘RE-ACT ‘to situations. There are many saying to this such as: Reaping what one sows, sowing the wind and reaping the whirl wind, action is faster than re-action, and what you see, is what you get. Reciprocity says you will get what you put out. A warrior will use this as way to neutralize threats in only what level it is given in. For example, if a threat level can be neutralized by using less lethal. It is ‘Reciprocity’ to apply that level of force rather than escalating it to lethal force. Good judgment in action and proper use of power, but not abuse of power.

Order of law:

The warrior understands the rules and bylaws set down before them from their elders and as a part of the tradition and lineage they come from. They abide by and follow them because they know it’s integral to their growth and development and in order to be a great leader they must be a great follower. They also know in doing this, they honor their ancestors and themselves. Order is a very big part of functionality in dealing with life. The physical mental and spiritual training are the tool that elevates them towards operating at their highest level of being as an individual, a journey and aspiration that is lifelong.

Harmony: To be on one accord; a pleasing arraignment. This is how a warrior’s mind works. It is in harmony with nature (NTR). The warrior is always on the side of truth and justice, and demonstrates that in their actions and what they fight for. The warrior acts in accord with balance and being gentle or forceful as needed. When using force, they do so for righteous and justified reasons and for establishing a proper equality of power within a situation, establishing balance and harmony.
